About the Magazine

Welcome to ACGloryDays.com, the digital platform of Glory Days Magazine, the newest multi-media high school sports production in South Jersey. The goal of this venture is simple: To tell the high school sports stories that don’t get told, and to give readers a glimpse into the lives of all the people who make high school sports such an interesting landscape. The athletes, coaches, fans, parents and all the people behind the scenes who make these sports and teams such an integral part of the lives of so many.

Included on this website will be feature stories that aren’t being written anywhere else, Q&A sessions with area athletes, photo galleries, videos, and a host of other tidbits that we think will make the high school sports experience more enjoyable to players, fans and anyone who has even a passing interest in area high school athletics. Featured prominently on this website, as well as in the print publication, which is set to debut in September at the start of the 2013-14 school year, will be “My Glory Days.” This is where we catch up with former athletes from high schools such as Atlantic City, Egg Harbor Township, Mainland Regional, Ocean City, Pleasantville, Absegami and Holy Spirit, to name a few.

A high school career is special to any athlete, so much so that singer Bruce Springsteen even wrote a song about how as athletes get older they reminisce about their “Glory Days.”

“I hope when I get old I don’t sit around thinkin’ about it, but I probably will. Yeah, just sittin’ back trying to recapture a little of the glory of…Glory Days…” Fond memories athletes have of that special time in their athletic career is the inspiration for this idea.

Also, we have introduced a feature called “Momversation” in which we sit down with an athlete’s mother and hopefully pry a few embarrassing tidbits about their son or daughter, like that time they tried to rap at the eighth grade talent show! Moms are a huge part of high school athletics and are so much more than just a courier or somebody who drops off sports drinks and orange slices. And when you get down to it, that is our mission here at Glory Days, to tell the stories of these dedicated people who mean so much to a team, a school and a community. This summer we are planning to introduce a new columnist who will be writing about health and wellness, with a particular emphasis on female athletes, as well as their parents and the issues they face such as dealing with stress, expectations, time management and relationships, among other things.

In addition, we will be focusing on athletes who don’t just work hard and succeed on the field, but also in the classroom and community. High school students get a bad rap many times, but as a former high school and college athlete — as well as a former substitute teacher and coach — I can attest that there are plenty of athletes out there who go above and beyond what is required of them in all aspects of life, and we aim to make those efforts known and applauded.

We hope you enjoy our website and upcoming print edition as much as we enjoy bringing you these stories. And check back often, you never know what’s coming next at ACGloryDays.com!
